This festival falls every twelfth year, however, this time it is happening on the 11th year due to planetary movements. Such a coincidence is being formed after 83 years, earlier it was in the years 1760, 1885 and 1938.
According to Hindu mythology, this tradition began after the Samudra Manthan in which the gods and demons fought for the Amrit Kalash. During this tug of war, a few drops of nectar spread to 12 places around the world including Mridulok.

As the COVID-19 epidemic is ravaging our lives, Haridwar authorities have issued a guideline that everyone must follow. He requested all the devotees coming by train or bus to undergo thermal screening before entering the holy city. The devotees who are planning to visit Haridwar at this Kumbh Mela 2021, should get themselves registered otherwise they will not be allowed to enter the city.
Not only this, the authorities have also asked the devotees to wear masks and follow the social discrimination rules at the ghats. Those who will be seen without a mask will not be allowed to enter the ghats of the river Ganges.

Keeping the Kumbh Mela in mind, the Indian Railways has restarted the Janata Express for pilgrims coming from Lucknow and has also extended several trains to Rishikesh. Earlier, Indian Railways had said that additional trains to Haridwar would be operated from across the country to reduce congestion due to the Kumbh Mela 2021.
